Qatari grant to establish Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Hospital in Egypt's Sohag Governorate - Sarmad

Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, stated that he held discussions with His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, on ways to enhance cooperation between the two countries in several sectors, including health and energy.

In a joint press conference with his Qatari counterpart, he added that the talks covered health sector cooperation, attended by the Health Minister, noting the signing of an agreement regarding a grant from the Qatari side to establish Sheikh Tamim Hospital in Sohag Governorate.

The Foreign Minister emphasized that the agreement is part of the cooperation between Egypt and Qatar and reflects both countries’ interest in strengthening joint efforts in sectors that serve citizens and support development initiatives.

Abdelatty further noted that the discussions also addressed the significant developments in Egyptian-Qatari relations in the energy sector, covering both traditional and renewable energy fields.

He pointed out that cooperation in this area has seen important steps in recent months, particularly following the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the two countries in the energy sector last January, which enhances opportunities to expand cooperation and leverage the available capacities of both sides.

For his part, Dr. Hossam Abdel-Ghaffar, the official spokesperson for Egypt’s Ministry of Health and Population, clarified that the agreement falls within the framework of supporting Egyptian-Qatari cooperation in the health sector and contributes to strengthening health infrastructure in Sohag Governorate by establishing a hospital with a capacity of 360 beds. This will support the provision of integrated healthcare services to approximately 740,000 residents of the governorate, including city dwellers and inhabitants of surrounding areas.
