Sultanate of Oman Hosts the 25th Scientific Conference of the History and Archaeology Association of the Gulf Cooperation Council Countries - Sarmad

(Doha) – The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, is hosting the 25th Scientific Conference of the Association for History and Archaeology of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries in the Dhofar Governorate from August 24 to 26, with the participation of more than 180 members of the association, as well as various specialists and enthusiasts from within and outside the Sultanate.

The conference will feature the presentation of 30 research papers addressing the history, archaeology, heritage, and culture of the Arabian Gulf states across different historical periods. It will also include an accompanying exhibition showcasing a number of artifacts and archaeological finds discovered in the Sultanate of Oman, along with scientific publications in the fields of heritage, history, and archaeology.

The holding of the conference in Dhofar Governorate holds special significance as it coincides with the Silver Jubilee of the association’s conferences, marking its 25th edition since its establishment. Furthermore, the governorate is distinguished by its rich historical and civilizational heritage, having served throughout the ages as a hub of cultural interaction with the peoples of the region.

The conference aims to enhance knowledge of the region’s history and civilizational heritage, highlight the shared history of the peoples of the GCC countries, and strengthen ties of cooperation, convergence, and joint Gulf action. The program’s third day will include visits to several of the most prominent archaeological and historical landmarks and tourist sites in Dhofar Governorate.
