Netanyahu Brags About Bombing Syria, Warns Against Changing the 'Status Quo' - Sarmad

The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accused Syria of allowing the deployment of forces at a military base in the country’s northeast, stating that “this threatens the security of the Jewish state.”

A statement issued by the office said, “Israel and Syria had agreed to maintain the status quo on security matters, and Syria was on the verge of violating it by approving the deployment of Turkish forces at an airbase near Aleppo.”

It added that “Israel has repeatedly warned Syria that such a deployment would threaten Israel’s security. Syria chose to ignore these warnings,” emphasizing that “Israel will not tolerate any threats to its security and welcomes a return to the status quo.”

U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for Syria and Iraq Tom Barrack described on Tuesday the Israeli airstrikes on Abu al-Duhur Airbase in northwestern Syria as “an unnecessary escalation,” arguing that they do not contribute to regional stability.

In a statement posted on the X platform, Barrack expressed the United States’ “deep concern” over these attacks, calling on all parties to prioritize “rational dialogue” rather than resorting to further military actions.

Earlier, Syria condemned the Israeli airstrikes targeting Abu al-Duhur military airport, affirming that they constitute an unjustified act of aggression and a blatant violation of its sovereignty, as well as a serious escalation that threatens security and stability in the region.
