Trump seeks to meet with Kim Jong Un to «persuade him to abandon nuclear weapons» - Sarmad

U.S. officials said that President Donald Trump is urging his aides to arrange a meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un as soon as possible this autumn, in an effort to revive diplomatic initiatives launched during his first term to persuade Kim to abandon his country’s nuclear weapons program, according to The Wall Street Journal.
The officials noted that Trump specifically discussed the possibility of arranging a direct meeting with Kim during his upcoming trip to Asia, which could take place in November when world leaders gather at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Shenzhen, China.
The Wall Street Journal reported that although no formal arrangements have begun yet, the president’s desire to hold a high-level meeting with Kim indicates that Trump is strongly seeking a prominent foreign policy achievement at a time when securing a victory over Iran remains elusive.
