Syria: Arrest of Major General Suhail Nadim Abbas, from the former regime - Sarmad

Syrian state news agency SANA reported on Tuesday that Major General Suhail Nadim Abbas, an officer from the former regime, had been arrested.
The agency stated that Abbas was detained “after it was established that he participated in several military operations and violations in multiple governorates,” without providing details on the operations or subsequent legal proceedings.
The arrest is part of a campaign to pursue officers and officials from the former regime accused of committing abuses. The arrests have included Atef Najib, the former head of political security in Daraa; Amjad Youssef, accused of involvement in the Al-Tadamun massacre; and Colonel Haitham Rahhal, whom the Interior Ministry said oversaw torture and execution operations at Saydnaya Prison.
In June, authorities also arrested Youssef Habib, a former officer in the Republican Guard, on allegations of committing abuses against civilians.
