(KUNA) – The Public Authority for Environment affirmed on Monday its commitment to supporting the shift toward sustainable transport solutions that contribute to achieving long-term environmental and developmental goals, emphasizing the importance of linking sustainable transport projects with national objectives to bolster the country’s environmental and developmental roadmap up to 2060.
Sheikha Al-Ibrahim, Director of the Public Relations and Media Department and the Authority’s official spokesperson, told the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) following the Authority’s delegation visit to Kuwait Public Transport Company, led by the Acting Director General Nouf Bahbahani, that the Authority also supports the gradual transition toward transport solutions that help reduce emissions, improve quality of life, and preserve natural resources.
Al-Ibrahim added that during the visit, the delegation reviewed the company’s latest public transport projects, particularly the new electric buses, and learned about their operational mechanisms, key features, and role in supporting eco-friendly transport modes.
She clarified that the Authority’s delegation also examined the company’s efforts to develop the public transport system and its role in encouraging the use of mass transit, thereby helping to alleviate traffic congestion, reduce emissions, and enhance air quality.
She noted that the visit aims to strengthen cooperation and coordination between the two parties and support sustainability efforts and the transition toward more efficient, environmentally friendly transport modes, aligning with Kuwait’s direction toward sustainable development.
She emphasized that collaboration between the two entities will extend beyond technical and operational aspects to include raising environmental awareness among the public and encouraging citizens to use mass transit and eco-friendly buses, thereby supporting a shift in daily behaviors toward more sustainable transport choices.
She further stated that both parties plan to implement several joint awareness campaigns and activities in the coming period, focusing on the importance of sustainable transport and its impact on reducing pollution and emissions, as well as highlighting the benefits of electric buses and their role in supporting national efforts to improve air quality and reduce the transport sector’s environmental footprint.
Al-Ibrahim pointed out that these campaigns will target various segments of society, with an emphasis on promoting a culture of using mass transit and enhancing community participation in achieving environmental goals, thereby embedding sustainability as part of daily behavior and supporting Kuwait’s move toward a more sustainable future.
