Russia equips its Ka-52 attack helicopters with guided missiles to shoot down drones - Sarmad

Russia has reconfigured Ka-52 Alligator attack helicopter units for drone interception operations, in response to the growing threat posed by Ukrainian drones.

The Ka-52 is designed to detect and engage small, low-signature ground targets from long distances. It is equipped with electro-optical/infrared (EO/IR) sensors capable of detecting drones, a pre-integrated laser rangefinder/designator for guided missile use, and modern battlefield management systems, all significantly enhanced for drone targeting, according to Military Watch magazine.

The helicopter’s distinctive coaxial rotor system offers several advantages, including excellent flight stability, high rotor speed, good low-speed maneuverability, and improved aiming accuracy during maneuvers—all valuable factors when tracking slow-moving drones.
