Iraqi Oil Minister: Our oil exports are two million barrels per day - Sarmad

Iraqi Oil Minister Basim Mohammed Khudhair announced that Iraq’s oil exports have reached two million barrels per day since the beginning of August.

The minister also announced the opening of the Central Gas Processing Station at the Fawkha oil field, noting that four oil tankers are currently carrying Iraqi crude for export. He stated that exports since the start of the month have averaged two million barrels daily, while July exports totaled approximately 49 million barrels.

Speaking at a joint press conference with Basra Governor Asaad Al-Eidani, Khudhair said, “The ministry is proceeding with the implementation of service and community projects in oil-producing areas, in coordination with the local government and Basra’s provincial council members.”

He emphasized that exploiting oil and gas resources is accompanied by the execution of projects benefiting residents of areas surrounding the fields. He clarified that “these projects are part of the Oil Ministry’s program, implemented in direct coordination with the local government, working as a single team to deliver the best projects and reduce the suffering of Iraqi citizens, particularly in Basra.”

He noted that “the Oil Ministry is striving to achieve self-sufficiency in gas and to increase production and export capacities.” He added that “the Central Gas Processing Station inaugurated today at the Fawkha field has a capacity of 130 million standard cubic feet per day, while the field’s oil production capacity stands at 100,000 barrels per day.”

Khudhair explained that “UEG is investing in three important fields in the south: the Fawkha field, the Sibah gas field, and the Al-Faw exploration block.” He pointed out that “early signs of exploration activities in Al-Faw have indicated the presence of oil and gas, which is a new blessing for Iraq.”

He affirmed that “personnel of the Oil Ministry, represented by the State Organization for Marketing of Oil (SOMO), Basra Oil Company, and other companies, are making exceptional efforts to maximize exports,” adding that “more than 85 percent of the national budget relies on exports.”
