Study: Bedroom Temperature May Affect Weight - Sarmad

Numerous studies have found that sleep deprivation or disrupted sleep is linked to weight gain, due to sleep’s impact on appetite and energy regulation.

Sleep psychology specialist Michelle Drerup states that, as a general rule, bedroom temperature should be set between 15 and 19 degrees Celsius, and that you should view your bedroom as “your cave. It should be cool, dark, and quiet to promote your sleep.”

We have all experienced the feeling of getting poor, disrupted sleep. The next day, we wake up feeling sluggish, in a bad mood, moving slowly, and looking forward to the moment we close our eyes again to get some rest.

Several factors can contribute to sleep problems, one of which is temperature, according to the Cleveland Clinic.

Drerup notes that “if your bedroom becomes uncomfortably hot or cold, you are more likely to wake up.”

She added, “But why does this happen? One study suggests that excessive exposure to heat or cold is directly linked to increased awakenings and reduced rapid eye movement (REM) sleep.

Regulating temperature is crucial for staying in restorative sleep stages, particularly slow-wave sleep, as these are the phases in which we obtain the greatest sense of rest.”
