US President: Firing Infantino 'for any reason' would be a grave mistake - Sarmad

U.S. President Donald Trump affirmed that the dismissal of Gianni Infantino, president of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), would be a grave mistake, following a joint statement issued by UEFA, CONCACAF, and the Asian Football Confederation accusing Infantino of breaching trust due to his proposal to sell stakes in the World Cup to investors.

Trump wrote on the Truth Social platform: “FIFA would be very wrong to think, for any reason, of replacing President Gianni Infantino.”

He added: “He is great; he just presided over the most successful World Cup ever, by a wide margin of four times. If he leaves, the tournament will not be as successful or profitable as it has been before.”

The United States, Canada, and Mexico hosted the 2026 World Cup this summer, and Spain was crowned champion after defeating Argentina in the final match.

Infantino, FIFA’s president, enjoys a close relationship with Trump, the U.S. president, and awarded him the inaugural FIFA Peace Award in December 2025.
