Israeli Army: Interception of a weapons-laden convoy coming from Egypt to Gaza - Sarmad

An Israeli newspaper claimed that the occupation army intercepted a drone carrying weapons near the Egyptian border that was en route to the Gaza Strip.

The newspaper warned in a report about the deterioration of the ground situation in Gaza and the growing capabilities of Hamas amid the absence of a strategy for the day after.

The Israeli newspaper “Maariv” stated that nearly three years after October 7, the Israeli army finds itself in a defensive position in the Gaza Strip, while Hamas rebuilds its strength and pressures Israel to respond to American demands to limit its operations.

“Maariv” noted that for nearly two weeks, the Israeli army has largely held its fire in the Gaza Strip. Its soldiers are engaged in a form of defensive combat, positioned along the “Yellow Line” at the front, while army bases are located one or two distances behind. The army operates in the area between the perimeter fence and the Yellow Line, attempting to identify additional Hamas infrastructure that has not yet been addressed, some of which has recently been repaired and rehabilitated.

The Israeli newspaper added that Hamas shows no signs of relinquishing its weapons or withdrawing anywhere; rather, it is doing everything possible to recover, including recruiting and training young people in military skills and attempting to rebuild its arsenal.

According to the newspaper, a dog from the “Ookit” unit this week discovered an underground tunnel used as an arms depot containing dozens of rockets. In the Egyptian border sector, fighters from the Farama Battalion of the 80th Division of the Israeli army intercepted a drone carrying a shipment comprising 21 rifles and ammunition. Estimates suggest the weapons were intended to move westward toward the Gaza border for the benefit of Hamas.

The newspaper pointed out that restricting the movement of Israeli army forces in Gaza is a worrying development, and the reappearance of Hamas elements in the heart of the streets to demonstrate their control represents a problematic move that grants the movement more power and helps it attract new recruits.

It added that the situation does not stop there; Hamas is active on the ground against the Israeli army through surveillance and intelligence-gathering operations. Attempts to cross the Yellow Line are increasing, and it is likely that when they are not being pursued, they begin planning attacks against forces in the field, positions, and even the perimeter fence.

The Israeli newspaper stated that the major problem lies in the fact that Israel succeeded in fighting the military battle against Hamas with strength and decisiveness, but failed to establish a strategy for the day after. Nearly three years after October 7, 2023, it now finds itself compelled to halt American directives.

It clarified that officials in the security establishment are aware that the army will soon be asked to evacuate several areas along the Yellow Line, and that Moroccan or Gulf Arab soldiers will likely replace them.

The Israeli newspaper questioned the extent to which these replacement forces are trained to confront Hamas, combat tunnels, and fight underground, as well as their determination to stop militants approaching the perimeter fence or army positions.

However, the ministers who attacked the Chief of Staff lack even the slightest degree of integrity and fairness.
