London: Notable increase in Russian military activities near British territorial waters - Sarmad

(KUNA) – The UK Ministry of Defence revealed on Saturday that Russian military activities near British territorial waters, particularly in the North Atlantic, have increased by approximately 25 percent since the beginning of this year compared to the same period last year.

The ministry stated in a statement that its naval forces spent 21 days last month conducting continuous operations to monitor and track the movements of Russian naval vessels near UK territorial waters.

It explained that it deployed four ships and frigates, along with anti-submarine helicopters, during these operations, adding that tracking Russian vessels is also part of the UK’s sanctions against the “shadow fleet” that transports Russian oil to evade international sanctions.

The statement noted in this regard that the UK has imposed sanctions on 500 Russian vessels to date, resulting in a decline of nearly 24 percent in Moscow’s oil and gas revenues last year.
