Vance: Iran has pledged the flow of oil through the Strait of Hormuz, and Washington does not trust it until Tehran proves it - Sarmad

U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance said that Iran has informed the United States of its readiness to allow the maximum possible flow of oil and gas through the Strait of Hormuz, emphasizing that Washington will not trust this commitment until it is verified in practice.

Vance added, “The Iranians are hurting and want to end this,” noting that the U.S. administration is working on a plan to ensure the safe passage of ships through the strait.

He clarified that the plan includes an Iranian commitment not to target commercial vessels, stating, “We are working on a plan for the safe passage of ships, which includes Iran’s commitment not to fire on commercial vessels.”

The U.S. Vice President warned against considering the crisis over, adding, “We are still in the midst of the battle; it is not over yet.”

He continued, “We expect the flow of oil and gas from the Gulf to continue at the same levels as before the conflict. That is what the Iranians have told us, but we do not trust; we verify.”

Vance’s remarks came amid talks between Iran and the Sultanate of Oman regarding the creation of a new navigation route in the strait, while Tehran is linking the resumption of full transit to Washington meeting additional conditions, including compensation for violations it claims have affected previous understandings.
