Iraq: "Security Media" – Government Proceeds to Centralize Weapons in State Hands - Sarmad

The Security Media Cell confirmed that the Iraqi government is proceeding with its policy of centralizing weapons under state control, noting that armed tribal conflicts have seen a marked decline and have nearly disappeared in some areas.

The cell’s head, Lieutenant General Saad Maan, told the Iraqi News Agency that the government is continuing this project, which aims to restrict the use of weapons to security and military institutions only, regulate licensing, combat illegal trade, and collect unlicensed arms. He emphasized that this measure is sufficient to raise the level of community security and strengthen citizens’ trust in state institutions.

He clarified that the security committee under the Ministry of Interior continues to open offices for registering and organizing weapons, adding that the judiciary has classified armed tribal conflicts as acts of terrorism, which has contributed to a significant decrease in such incidents.
