Trump: Talks with Iran are “going very well” and we will see what happens in the next 48 hours - Sarmad

(KUNA) – U.S. President Donald Trump expressed his satisfaction on Wednesday with the progress of talks with the Iranian side, affirming that they “are moving forward very well and I expect to see results within two days.”

Trump told reporters before departing California for Nevada, “Significant progress has been made; we are moving forward very well, and I believe it would be highly wise for Iran to reach an agreement, but we will see what happens, perhaps within 48 hours.”

He reiterated that the Iranian side had contacted him requesting talks, but expressed surprise at Iran’s denial of this fact.

Last Saturday, the U.S. president announced the postponement of a wave of violent strikes that the United States had intended to launch against Iran, to pave the way for the resumption of talks. The following day (Sunday), he stated that a new round of negotiations between the two countries would begin at the start of the week (the day before yesterday).

Previously, the United States and Iran signed a memorandum of understanding on June 17 to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, which saw a brief revival in shipping traffic through the strait before Iran launched attacks on oil tankers transiting the strait off the Omani coast under U.S. military protection.

In response, Washington launched more than 12 waves of air raids and reimposed a naval blockade on Iran.
