Iran announces agreement with Oman on «Strait of Hormuz route» - Sarmad

Iran announced that it has reached an agreement with the Sultanate of Oman on the geographical characteristics of the navigation route in the Strait of Hormuz, without providing further clarification regarding its nature.

Ismail Baghaei, spokesperson for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that the two sides had agreed on the geographical coordinates of the route proposed by both parties.

He added that “in the absence of any obstacles from third parties,” the joint statement between Iran and Oman, including the considerations and key points agreed upon, has entered the final review and drafting stage.

However, he emphasized that the agreement between the two countries does not “in itself” guarantee that the Strait of Hormuz is safe.

The spokesperson for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said: “Discussions between Iran and the Sultanate of Oman, as the two coastal states of the Strait of Hormuz, have been underway for two months with the aim of establishing a safe navigation route for commercial shipping in the strait. Relevant authorities in our country have reviewed the various technical, legal, security, and environmental aspects.”

He described the negotiation process between the two countries as “characterized by professionalism and a forward-looking approach.”
