Raising readiness, canceling leave, and recalling military personnel to their units in the Syrian Army - Sarmad

The Syrian Ministry of Defense has raised the readiness level of several army formations, canceling leave and recalling military personnel to their units, while bolstering deployments in the Syrian desert and along parts of the border with Iraq, without an official announcement clarifying the reasons for these measures.

In response, the commander of the Iraqi Border Forces confirmed that the Syrian movements are being carried out in coordination with Baghdad, stating that the situation on the border is normal and that there are no direct threats.

Meanwhile, unofficial sources, including the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, are circulating a different narrative suggesting that the state of alert may be linked to internal movements aimed at restructuring certain military formations, notably the 62nd Division led by Mohammed Al-Jasem, known as “Abu Omsha,” with reports of military movements in Hama province coinciding with the border deployments.

According to these sources, the objective is to strengthen the central command’s control over the military establishment. However, these claims have not been confirmed by Syrian authorities so far, and no official comment has been issued, leaving the actual reasons for the alert open to multiple possibilities.
