Al-Faleeh commends the Cabinet's decision on the "Environmental Sustainability System" initiative - Sarmad

(KUNA) – State Minister for Development and Sustainability, Dr. Reem Al-Faleh, commended the Cabinet’s decision regarding the “Government Environmental Sustainability Reporting System” initiative, affirming that its adoption represents a significant national step toward entrenching sustainability in government operations, enhancing governance and transparency, and improving the environmental performance of government entities.

Speaking to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) on Tuesday, Minister Al-Faleh stated that the system aims to establish a unified government framework for preparing annual reports that measure the environmental performance of government entities and track their compliance with sustainability indicators.

She clarified that the system contributes to providing accurate, measurable data, identifying improvement opportunities, enhancing resource efficiency, and supporting data-driven decision-making.

She added that the Cabinet’s assignment of her, in her capacity as supervisor of the Public Authority for Environmental Affairs, to coordinate with relevant government entities and monitor efforts related to the system’s action plan reflects the state’s commitment to transforming sustainability into an institutional practice based on measurement, follow-up, and continuous development, thereby ensuring the integration of government efforts and achieving the desired environmental objectives.

She noted that the next phase will involve working with relevant entities to determine reporting mechanisms, monitor performance indicators, and assess the implementation status of each entity, paving the way for submitting an annual report to the Cabinet detailing the level of compliance, achieved results, key challenges, and recommendations.

She emphasized that preparing these reports will help Kuwait fulfill its international climate and environmental commitments and preserve the state’s resources for future generations.
