Council of Ministers: The Anniversary of the Brutal Iraqi Invasion Will Remain a Witness to National Unity - Sarmad

(KUNA) — The Council of Ministers held its meeting today, Tuesday, August 4, 2026, presided over by His Highness Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Prime Minister, may God protect him. Following the meeting, His Excellency Sheikh Sharida Abdullah Al-Muwasharji, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs, issued the following statement:

On the occasion of the 36th anniversary of the brutal Iraqi invasion of the State of Kuwait, which coincided with last Sunday, Kuwait remembers with pain and bitterness the treacherous crime committed by the Iraqi regime on the dawn of August 2, 1990. This event remains a testament to national unity and serves as a solid milestone through which generations recall the great sacrifices made by Kuwaitis in defense of their homeland and sovereignty. This anniversary embodies the meanings of cohesion and loyalty, highlighting the values of belonging to Kuwait and the people’s unity around their legitimate leadership.

The Council of Ministers highly appreciates and honors the prominent role played by the late Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the late Father Amir Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Al-Salim Al-Sabah, the late Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, and the late Amir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, may God have mercy on them, in working to liberate the State of Kuwait from the clutches of occupation.

The Council of Ministers proudly recalls the steadfastness and heroic sacrifices of the Kuwaiti people in confronting the treacherous Iraqi aggression, which stands as a model of national unity and a pivotal moment where the cohesion of the Kuwaiti people, both domestically and internationally, was evident, standing as one solid front behind their legitimate leadership in an eternal national and human tableau characterized by bravery, patience, and faith.

The Council of Ministers deeply appreciates and honors the sacrifices of the righteous martyrs and loyal resistance heroes who defended the homeland with their pure blood and wrote in the pages of history an epic of a people who know no defeat in defending the State of Kuwait during the brutal Iraqi occupation. Kuwaitis proved during this pivotal stage in the nation’s history that unity of ranks and deep faith in the justice of the cause were Kuwait’s impenetrable shield and the secret to its rise from adversity to glory. He prayed to Almighty God to envelop the righteous martyrs in His abundant mercy and grant them Paradise.

While renewing its gratitude and appreciation to all sister and friendly countries that contributed to the liberation of the State of Kuwait and the restoration of rights to their rightful owners, the Council of Ministers invokes Almighty God to perpetuate the blessings of security and stability upon our beloved homeland under the wise leadership of His Highness the Amir of the State, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, may God protect and guard him, and His Highness the Crown Prince, Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, may God protect him.

On another note, the Council of Ministers expressed its strongest condemnation and rejection of the continued wicked Iranian aggression against the country, which targeted several vital facilities, including a government facility in the north of the country, as well as civilian vehicles belonging to a civilian company in Bubiyan Island, on Friday and Saturday of last week, using hostile drones. This constitutes a blatant violation of Kuwait’s sovereignty, a direct threat to its security and stability, and a serious breach of the rules of international law, the UN Charter, principles of good neighborliness, and Security Council Resolution (2817). The Council emphasized that the continuation of these blatant attacks represents a dangerous escalation and reflects an aggressive stance that cannot be justified or accepted, as it undermines security and stability in the region and exacerbates tensions. It reaffirmed Kuwait’s inherent and legitimate right to take all necessary measures to safeguard its sovereignty, protect its security, interests, assets, and the safety of its citizens and residents.

On another note, the Council of Ministers expressed its strong condemnation and rejection of the attacks on the sister Kingdom of Saudi Arabia by militias affiliated with Iran in Iraq, reflecting those militias’ determination to continue escalating and destabilizing the region. The latest such blatant aggression involved the launch of drones in a futile attempt to target petroleum facilities in the Eastern Province last week, constituting a blatant violation of the Kingdom’s sovereignty and a threat to its security and territorial integrity. This comes at a time when the Kingdom is making sincere efforts to contribute to ending escalation in the region. The Council of Ministers renewed Kuwait’s absolute solidarity with the sister Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, its support for the Kingdom, and its backing of all measures taken to protect its security, sovereignty, interests, and assets, including its inherent right to self-defense guaranteed by international law under Article 51 of the UN Charter. It emphasized that the security of the Kingdom is an integral part of the security of the State of Kuwait and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.

The Council of Ministers also renewed its strong condemnation and rejection of the renewed Iranian aggression that targeted the sister Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan with several missiles last week, considering this aggression a blatant violation of the Kingdom’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and a threat to regional security and stability. It renewed Kuwait’s full solidarity with the sister Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, its support for the Kingdom, and its backing of all measures taken to safeguard its security and sovereignty, stressing the necessity of putting an end to these attacks and respecting the rules of international law and principles of good neighborliness.

The Council of Ministers also expressed its strong condemnation and rejection of the attack on the sister Arab Republic of Egypt, involving a drone that caused a fire on board two ships at the Port of Damietta last week. It reaffirmed Kuwait’s full solidarity with the sister Arab Republic of Egypt, its support for the Republic, and its backing of all measures taken to safeguard its sovereignty and protect its security and interests.

On another note, the Council of Ministers listened to a briefing by His Excellency the Minister of Defense, Sheikh Abdullah Ali Al-Salim Al-Sabah, regarding the latest developments in the region and current military developments in light of the wicked Iranian attacks suffered by Kuwait in recent days. He emphasized the readiness of the Armed Forces and their continued performance of duties with efficiency and competence, taking all necessary measures and precautions to safeguard Kuwait’s sovereignty and territory, maintain its security and stability, and protect citizens and residents.

On another note, the Council of Ministers listened to a briefing by His Excellency the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Jaraah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, regarding the political and diplomatic efforts undertaken by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and its diplomatic missions abroad to keep pace with the latest developments on the regional and international scenes.

In this context, His Excellency informed the Council of Ministers about the results of his official visit to the Pakistani capital, Islamabad, last Wednesday, and the substance of his meetings with the Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, attended by the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Ishaq Dar, and the Pakistani ministers of Defense, Commerce, National Food Security, Research, Communications, Maritime Affairs, and Petroleum, along with several senior Pakistani officials. During the meetings, His Excellency conveyed greetings from His Highness the Amir of the State, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, may God protect and guard him, His Highness the Crown Prince, Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, may God protect him, and His Highness Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Prime Minister, to His Excellency Asif Ali Zardari, President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, and to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, along with best wishes from Their Highnesses for the continued progress and prosperity of the friendly Pakistani government and people. The meeting reviewed the solid historical relations between the two countries and peoples and discussed ways to enhance and strengthen the prospects of joint cooperation in various fields to serve the common interests of both nations. The latest regional developments and efforts aimed at enhancing security and stability in the region were also discussed. His Excellency expressed Kuwait’s appreciation for the active diplomatic role played by the Islamic Republic of Pakistan in supporting regional security and stability.

His Excellency also informed the Council of Ministers about the substance of two meetings he held with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Pakistan Ishaq Dar, and with the Chief of Army Staff and Commander of the Pakistan Armed Forces, General Asim Munir. During these meetings, the solid historical relations between the two countries and peoples were reviewed, and the importance of continuing to enhance cooperation frameworks and intensify coordination and consultation in various fields was emphasized. The latest regional developments and efforts aimed at de-escalation and enhancing security and stability in the region were also discussed.

On another note, the Council of Ministers reviewed a visual presentation by His Excellency the Minister of Education, Sayed Jalal Sayed Abdulmuhsin Al-Tabtabaee, attended by senior officials and administrators of the Ministry of Education, regarding the Ministry’s preparations for the launch of the new academic year 2026/2027 and the measures taken to ensure the readiness of the educational system and prepare schools to receive students. The presentation covered the main pillars of preparation at educational, administrative, artistic, engineering, and technical levels, as well as updates on curriculum and educational regulations development, completion of school preparations, and provision of various needs and requirements. Additionally, it highlighted the use of technology to manage and monitor the preparation plan via a dedicated electronic platform for monitoring and tracking operational plans for the new academic year, enabling the tracking of work progress and completion rates, enhancing implementation oversight, identifying and addressing challenges promptly, thereby supporting swift decision-making and the completion of tasks according to scheduled timelines.
