(KUNA) – Dr. Amthal Al-Huwailan, Minister of Social Affairs, Labor, and Social Development and Chair of the Women’s Affairs Committee, affirmed on Monday the importance of integrating government efforts and accelerating implementation to improve Kuwait’s ranking in the World Bank’s “Women, Business and the Law” index.
This came in a statement by Minister Al-Huwailan at the opening of a workshop on the index, attended by members of the Women’s Affairs Committee and representatives of relevant government entities, as part of national efforts to enhance Kuwait’s international standing.
She stated that the committee is working in coordination with relevant entities to study the index’s requirements and prioritize actions, enabling the completion of necessary amendments and procedures in the coming period and contributing to raising the country’s ranking ahead of the evaluation scheduled for October next year.
She added that the significance of this index extends beyond the World Bank’s ranking, as it is linked to several international commitments and indicators, including the Beijing Platform for Action, the Gender Gap Index, and the Sustainable Development Goals. Improving its results thus reflects Kuwait’s progress in women’s empowerment.
She clarified that an inventory of required amendments for each entity, according to its jurisdiction, has been prepared. She noted that the current priority is to swiftly enact what can be approved quickly, particularly decisions, regulations, and administrative procedures, while simultaneously completing legislative amendments that require longer timeframes.
Al-Huwailan stressed the necessity of working with a team spirit to strengthen Kuwait’s presence in relevant international indices and reports, emphasizing that achieving this goal requires cooperation among all entities and the swift implementation of required measures within each entity’s jurisdiction before the next evaluation deadline.
