Unemployed man rents a courtroom and impersonates a judge: unprecedented crime sparks controversy in Egypt - Sarmad

Egyptian authorities have revealed the details of a bizarre crime that sparked significant controversy on social media platforms.

According to Egyptian media reports, the authorities uncovered a case in which an unemployed individual impersonated a judge to defraud citizens. This came to light after videos and photos circulated online showing the suspect wearing the judicial sash inside one of the courtrooms in the capital.

Investigations revealed that the suspect had colluded with three employees at a court in Cairo to allow him to sneak into a hearing room after official working hours, in exchange for a bribe of 3 million Egyptian pounds.

Investigations further indicated that the complicit employees allowed the suspect to wear the judges’ sash inside the courtroom, film videos, and take photos of him to lend an air of legitimacy to his claims.

The investigations added that the suspect published these videos and photos on his personal social media accounts, misleading his followers into believing he was a member of the judiciary. He exploited this official appearance to attract victims, convincing them that he possessed the influence and authority to resolve complex legal and judicial procedures in exchange for money.

Local websites and newspapers reported that after the procedures were formalized and the suspect’s location identified, he was arrested. Legal measures were also taken against the three employees involved in the incident.

Authorities ordered the freezing of the suspect’s bank accounts and assets to determine their connection to the funds obtained through his activities. Simultaneously, all seized videos and photos in his possession are being examined, and conversations he had with his victims via social media are being transcribed to identify the actual number of victims who fell prey to his fraud throughout the period of his activity.

The decisions also included the seizure of all forged documents and papers found at his residence, and the summoning of the three complicit employees to confront them with the suspect’s detailed confessions.
