Capital One confirms closure of Trump Organization's bank accounts - Sarmad

Capital One confirmed the closure of the Trump Organization’s bank accounts, stating that the decision followed a review conducted by the bank’s anti-money laundering experts.

The bank’s confirmation came in a legal filing in response to a lawsuit filed by the Trump Organization over the closure of its bank accounts several years ago. This marks the first disclosure of its kind to formally link anti-money laundering concerns with the business dealings of U.S. President Donald Trump’s family.

In the filing, which seeks to dismiss the lawsuit, Capital One stated that the closure of more than 300 accounts linked to the Trump Organization in March 2021 was the result of “months of careful analysis and review” by its anti-money laundering team, in accordance with the bank’s policies and regulatory guidelines.

The Trump Organization and Eric Trump (the president’s son) filed the lawsuit in March 2025 in U.S. Federal Court in Florida, accusing the bank of closing the accounts due to its “left-leaning” beliefs and its desire to align with the prevailing political climate following the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack.

Capital One described the lawsuit in its filing as “misleading” and based on “selective quotes taken out of the full context” of documents submitted to the court.

Notably, this is not the first time Trump has faced banking obstacles. In 2019, he filed a lawsuit against Capital One and Deutsche Bank for refusing to share his financial records with Congress.
