Jordan informs Iraq of its intention to militarily respond to Iran-backed militias - Sarmad

Al Arabiya, citing an official Jordanian source, reported that Amman informed Baghdad of intelligence indicating that Iran-aligned militias were plotting to target Jordanian territory.

The source stated that Jordan had notified the Iraqi side that it would respond militarily to any attacks carried out by these groups against its land.

It also confirmed that Jordan expects Iraqi authorities to take measures to halt these militias and prevent any threats targeting its security.

The Jordanian warning comes amid escalating tensions in the region following confrontations between the United States and Iran, with the repercussions extending into Iraq.

Earlier, the Jordanian Armed Forces announced on Thursday that they had thwarted an attempt to target the country with five missiles launched from Iran, confirming that air defense systems intercepted the attack and prevented the missiles from reaching their targets.

A senior military source in the General Command of the Armed Forces told the official Jordan News Agency (Petra) that air defenses intercepted five missiles fired toward Jordanian territory.

The source emphasized that the Jordanian Armed Forces continue to monitor regional developments and are prepared to address any threat to the country’s sovereignty or security, reiterating the forces’ readiness to counter any aggression.
