Trump announces reaching an agreement to disarm Hamas and factions in Gaza - Sarmad
US President Donald Trump announced that the “Peace Council” had reached what he described as a “historic agreement” calling for the complete disarmament of Hamas and all other armed groups in the Gaza Strip, to be implemented in phases coinciding with the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the territory.
Trump stated in a post on the “Truth Social” platform that the agreement represents a monumental step toward achieving lasting peace and security, and a key milestone in implementing his 20-point plan to end the conflict in Gaza.
He added that the agreement would pave the way for the transfer of the Strip’s administration to a new Palestinian government that would work closely with the “Peace Council,” noting that this would enable the government to serve Palestinians, provide Israel with security, and prevent Gaza from being used as a base for attacks against it.
Trump clarified that the agreement’s implementation would proceed through carefully organized phases, pointing out that Israeli forces would withdraw as the disarmament process is completed.
According to the US president, an international stabilization force, in cooperation with a new Palestinian police force, would assume responsibility for maintaining the security of Gaza, its residents, and neighboring countries, concurrent with the transfer of the Strip’s administration to the new Palestinian government.
Trump noted that the agreement constitutes a major achievement in implementing his plan, adding that historic progress has been made since the end of the war, the humanitarian crisis, and the release of hostages, but he acknowledged that much work remains to be done.
Trump’s announcement did not include details regarding the timeline for the disarmament and Israeli withdrawal phases, or the verification and implementation mechanisms, nor did it identify the parties that signed the agreement.
The US president thanked Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey for their mediation efforts, as well as his team, which he said had contributed to the agreement through its continuous work.
