Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi denied Tehran’s responsibility for the strike that targeted two ships in the port of Damietta.

In a post on his official account on the X platform, Araghchi said, “Egypt is a friendly country and an important partner in the region, and its security is of the utmost importance to us,” calling for “vigilance against Israel’s conspiracies and false-flag operations designed to undermine regional peace.”

He added that “this clear and shared threat targets Muslim solidarity,” and stressed that countries in the region should exercise caution to avoid being drawn into further escalation.

Araghchi used the term “false flag,” which refers to operations carried out by one party to frame another.

Araghchi’s remarks came hours after the Egyptian government announced that a commercial vessel had been attacked by a drone while near the port of Damietta, an incident Cairo acknowledged for the first time, while confirming that investigations are ongoing to identify those responsible.
