Ministry of Health Celebrates MRI Safety Week - Sarmad
(KUNA) – The Ministry of Health, represented by the Council of Radiology and Radiation Therapy Departments, celebrated Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Safety Week on Thursday. The annual event, held during the last week of July, aims to raise awareness of best safety practices in MRI environments.
In a press release, the ministry stated that it organized a comprehensive scientific and training program for the occasion, featuring a series of lectures, workshops, and awareness activities. These were attended by a select group of specialists from outside Kuwait, alongside virtual lectures delivered by international experts in the field.
According to the statement, Dr. Bathina Al-Kandari, Chair of the Council of Radiology and Radiation Therapy Departments and Head of the Radiology Department at Jaber Hospital under the Ministry of Health, noted that this event aligns with the ministry’s commitment to embedding a safety culture in MRI environments and keeping pace with the latest global standards and practices. This contributes to enhancing the quality of health services and raising safety levels for both patients and staff.
Dr. Al-Kandari explained that the program included specialized courses and workshops targeting radiologists and radiologic technologists. These sessions focused on the latest safety standards, risk management, and the safe operation of MRI equipment, as well as developing professional competencies and improving the readiness of teams working in this field.
She added that the program also featured awareness lectures aimed at healthcare personnel from various specialties, including physicians, surgeons, nursing staff, and hospital workers. This approach was based on the principle that MRI safety is a shared responsibility requiring the coordination of all healthcare team members to ensure the highest levels of safety and care quality for patients.
She pointed out that hosting speakers and specialists from outside Kuwait, along with organizing virtual lectures by international experts, enriched the scientific program, facilitated the exchange of expertise, and provided insights into the latest global developments in MRI safety.
Dr. Al-Kandari emphasized that the Council of Radiology and Radiation Therapy Departments will continue to organize specialized scientific and training programs to strengthen the culture of quality and safety, enhance the efficiency of national cadres, and keep pace with the continuous evolution in radiology and medical imaging services. These efforts will positively impact patient safety and the quality of healthcare provided.
