Kuwait University: Admission of 8,409 students meeting the requirements for the first semester of 2026–2027 - Sarmad
(KUNA) – Kuwait University announced on Thursday the acceptance of 8,409 male and female students for the first semester of the 2026–2027 academic year, comprising Kuwaiti high school graduates who met the admission requirements.
Dr. Fadel Aziz, Acting Dean of Admissions and Registration at Kuwait University, stated in a press statement that all applicants who met the admission criteria and selected all their preferred choices were accepted.
Aziz clarified that this figure does not include students accepted into external scholarships, Abdullah Al-Salem University, or those whose equivalent GPA or secondary school percentage did not match their selected preferences, as well as those falling below the minimum admission thresholds based on the allocated quotas.
He noted that students can identify their accepted major by accessing their submitted enrollment application or through the Unified Government Electronic Services application (Sahel). He explained that the digital code associated with each student’s name corresponds to their accepted major, and students can verify the major by referring to the table of minimum percentages, where the code is listed alongside the major’s name.
He emphasized that Kuwait University ensured transparency in its admission criteria by publishing the equivalent GPAs and minimum secondary school percentages required for all majors and faculties.
He added that competition for seats in all faculties was based on the equivalent GPA or secondary school percentage, without discrimination between male and female applicants. The equivalent GPA is calculated based on the results of the academic aptitude tests required by each faculty, in addition to the student’s secondary school percentage.
He pointed out that students may submit a new enrollment application for the second semester during a period to be announced later by the Dean of Admissions and Registration. According to the University Council’s decision, no modifications can be made to the majors specified in the enrollment application after the submission period has ended.
Aziz stated that after the admission results are announced, Kuwaiti high school graduates from the unified system and the Religious Institute who applied online, as well as those who submitted enrollment requests at the Admissions and Registration Hall, must pay a fee of 10 Kuwaiti dinars (approximately $32.40 USD) via the KNET payment system through the electronic admission portal to validate their admission. He noted that these students are not required to visit the Admissions and Registration Hall to submit documents.
He added that Kuwaiti high school graduates from the American and British systems must visit the Admissions and Registration Hall to submit their documents and validate their admission between August 2 and 6, according to specific dates to be communicated via text messages.
He informed that Kuwaiti students expected to graduate from British high schools, who submitted their enrollment applications electronically within the specified deadlines, must submit their final results to the Dean of Admissions and Registration within two working days of the announcement of their results. Their admission will be granted in accordance with the announced minimum thresholds, and their chances of acceptance are equal to those of their peers who completed their documents during the enrollment application period.
Aziz mentioned that the Dean of Admissions and Registration has set the date for registering new students in courses starting from August 9. Each student’s registration appointment will be assigned via SMS to their mobile phone, and students can check their registration schedules through the website https://portal.ku.edu.kw/sis.
He conveyed congratulations from Kuwait University President Dr. Dina Al-Milhem to the admitted students, wishing them success and achievement in their university journey, and commended the efforts of university staff during the enrollment application period.
