Gulf Air launches direct flights to Addis Ababa and expands its African destination network - Sarmad

Jazeera Airways, the leading low-cost carrier in Kuwait, today announced the launch of a direct flight route between Kuwait and the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, starting on September 7, with three weekly flights. This move strengthens the airline’s growing network of destinations and supports its expansion in Africa, particularly to Ethiopia, which is one of the fastest-growing economies in East Africa.
With a community of more than 70,000 Ethiopian nationals residing in Kuwait, this new route provides a direct travel option, enabling them to easily visit their homeland and reconnect with family and friends.
At the launch event, His Excellency Dr. Saeed Mohammed Jabr, Ambassador of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to the State of Kuwait, said:
“The launch of direct flights between Kuwait and Addis Ababa marks an important milestone in strengthening the historical ties between Ethiopia and Kuwait. These flights will bring the two peoples closer together, facilitate trade and investment, and enhance tourism and cultural exchange. We welcome Jazeera Airways to Ethiopia and look forward to the promising opportunities this route will offer, benefiting both countries.”
The launch of this route also supports the expansion of commercial, investment, and tourism relations between Kuwait and Ethiopia. Addis Ababa, the political and diplomatic capital of the African continent and headquarters of the African Union, serves as a major commercial hub and an important gateway to various parts of the continent.
For his part, Barathan Pasupathy, CEO of Jazeera Airways, said:
“Addis Ababa is more than just a new destination; it is the diplomatic capital of Africa. Ethiopia is known as the ‘Cradle of Humanity,’ the birthplace of coffee, and one of the world’s oldest civilizations. By connecting Kuwait to Addis Ababa, Jazeera Airways opens a gateway to one of Africa’s largest and fastest-growing markets, while meeting the demand from the growing African community in Kuwait and strengthening commercial, tourism, and cultural ties between the Gulf states and the African continent.”
Addis Ababa is an ideal tourist destination for travelers seeking new experiences, combining rich history with a vibrant cultural and artistic scene. The city features world-class museums, a deep-rooted coffee culture, and distinctive Ethiopian cuisine. The capital also serves as an ideal starting point for exploring Ethiopia’s diverse natural landscapes and UNESCO World Heritage sites.
Located in the Ethiopian Highlands, Addis Ababa enjoys a mild climate year-round, with temperatures typically ranging between 8°C and 25°C, making it a suitable destination for travelers from Kuwait throughout the year.
