Saudi Arabia reaffirms its unwavering commitment to safeguarding its security, interests, and national assets - Sarmad
(KUNA) – The Saudi Cabinet today, Tuesday, strongly condemned the attacks by Iran-backed terrorist militias in Yemen and Iraq on oil facilities in the Riyadh and Eastern regions, as well as on commercial ships in the Red Sea.
The Saudi Press Agency quoted Minister of Education and Acting Minister of Information Youssef Al-Bunyan, in a statement issued following a cabinet meeting chaired by Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman in Jeddah.
The Council affirmed, in this context, that the Kingdom would not hesitate to protect its security, interests, and national assets, and to respond decisively to any hostile acts in accordance with the provisions and customary rules of international humanitarian law, and in line with the principle of proportionality.
It stressed the necessity for the Iraqi government to take all necessary measures to prevent its territory from being used as a launching pad for aggression, appreciating the positions of world countries and international organizations condemning the criminal attacks, which were effectively and competently countered by the Kingdom’s air defenses.
It added that the Kingdom continues its efforts to communicate and consult with sister and friendly countries to de-escalate tensions, contain regional instability, and ensure the security of waterways in the Arabian Gulf and the Red Sea, supporting all initiatives that contribute to achieving stability at both the regional and international levels.
The Council reaffirmed the Kingdom’s commitment to consolidating the approach of dialogue and diplomacy, and enhancing joint international action, especially given that the region is undergoing a pivotal stage requiring the establishment of a regional system based on adherence to the fundamental principles enshrined in the United Nations Charter, foremost among which are safeguarding state sovereignty, non-interference in internal affairs, respect for the principles of good neighborliness, guaranteeing freedom of navigation, and compliance with international law.
On the domestic front, the Council praised the Kingdom for ranking first regionally for the fourth consecutive year in the “E-Government and Mobile Services Maturity Index” issued by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA). This achievement is a continuation of the successes attained in related international indicators and reflects continuous progress in developing procedures and platforms, adopting emerging technologies and artificial intelligence, and establishing a global model in business practices and digital economy competitiveness.
On another note, the Council approved a memorandum of understanding between the Government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Government of the State of Kuwait in the fields of science, technology, and innovation. The Council also approved designating the year 2027 as the “Year of Water.”
