Iranian Foreign Ministry: We Are Still Exchanging Messages with the US... and Mediators Are Carrying Out Their Missions - Sarmad

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ismail Baghaei confirmed that the United States and Iran continue to exchange messages through intermediaries, but Tehran’s priority remains defending its sovereignty.

In an interview with Austrian channel ORF, Baghaei stated that recent U.S. military attacks were an extension of the conflict that began on February 28, asserting that Washington bears responsibility for undermining the diplomatic track.

He added that the United States had effectively violated all provisions of the memorandum of understanding, destroyed the conducive environment for dialogue, and betrayed diplomacy for the third time in a row, noting that these developments had weakened the prospects for resuming negotiations between the two sides.

The Iranian spokesperson emphasized that his country could not allow the Strait of Hormuz to once again become a tool for aggressors to harm its national security, reaffirming that protecting Iranian sovereignty was the top priority at the current stage.

On the other hand, Baghaei clarified that indirect communication channels remained open, pointing out that several intermediaries, including Pakistan and Qatar, continued to relay messages between Tehran and Washington as part of efforts to maintain contact despite escalating tensions.
