Iraqi Judiciary: Recovery of 27 Billion New Dinars in Al-Jamili Case - Sarmad

The Central Court of Crimes for Combating Corruption in Iraq announced on Sunday the seizure of 27 billion dinars in the case of detained Deputy Minister of Oil for Liquidation Affairs, Adnan Al-Jamili.

The judiciary stated in a press release that the investigating judge at the Central Court of Crimes for Combating Corruption announced the seizure of 27 billion Iraqi dinars in the case of the detained suspect, Adnan Al-Jamili, Deputy Minister of Oil for Liquidation Affairs, and the parties involved with him, according to the Iraqi News Agency (INA).

The specialized judge pointed out that meticulous follow-up on the seizure of financial proceeds resulting from waste in projects implemented by the suspect and the parties to the case led to the seizure of this amount, which was hidden with several individuals. He confirmed that investigations are ongoing to identify all those involved.

Last Wednesday, Iraq’s Higher Judicial Council announced the seizure of 13 billion dinars, 400,000 US dollars, and 40 gold bars in the Al-Jamili case in Salahuddin Governorate, and revealed the recovery of more than 1.143 billion dinars in a financial fraud crime.

These developments come as Iraqi authorities continue their campaign against major corruption files, while the judiciary persists in investigating the Al-Jamili case and tracking funds and assets linked to it within Iraq and abroad.

Iraqi judiciary recently warned against attempts by some fraudsters to exploit the case to extort businessmen, emphasizing that information circulating outside official court statements does not reflect the course of the official investigation.

The case remains open to further developments, with ongoing investigations to identify all those involved, trace the movement of funds, and recover assets suspected to have resulted from corruption operations, as part of one of the largest cases affecting Iraq’s oil sector in recent years.
