Iraqi Condemns Ukrainian Attack on Iranian Commercial Ship in the Caspian Sea - Sarmad

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi condemned the Ukrainian attack on an Iranian commercial vessel in the Caspian Sea, calling for those responsible for this criminal act and their supporters to be held accountable.

In a phone call with Kaja Kallas, the European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Araghchi urged a resolute response from the United Nations Security Council, the European Union, and the international community to hold accountable those who committed this criminal act and their backers.

Araghchi and Kallas emphasized the need to adopt “diplomatic initiatives” to manage tensions, referring to developments in the Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz following Iran’s response to the US aggression against Iran, as reported by Fars News Agency.

In a statement on Saturday evening, the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the Ukrainian military attack on an Iranian commercial ship in the Caspian Sea, stating: “Iran will not hesitate to defend its interests and national security in accordance with the fundamental principles and rules of international law, particularly the principle of self-defense. The responsibility for the consequences of Ukraine’s adventures will fall on the Ukrainian regime and its supporters and instigators.”

Zelensky stated on Saturday that Ukraine had targeted ships in the Caspian Sea, alleging they were transporting military shipments linked to Iran. He wrote on the X platform: “We targeted ships used to transport military shipments related to Iran, as well as a warship.”
