Washington: Trump gives talks with Iran a 'limited opportunity' - Sarmad

(Royters) – U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz said on Sunday that President Donald Trump is giving Iran negotiations “a limited opportunity.”

Waltz told Fox News that “he is giving negotiations an outlet, and giving it a limited opportunity.”

Waltz did not provide further details about the nature of the talks, but fighting between Iran and the United States had seen a relative lull at the start of the week. The U.S. Department of Defense (Pentagon) had halted airstrikes after 13 nights of escalating strikes, and there were no reports at the start of the week of Iranian attacks on Gulf Arab states.

When asked about this lull, a senior Trump administration official said on Saturday that the president “has always been clear in his preference for diplomacy, but he made it clear to Iran what would happen if it did not sit down at the negotiating table in earnest.”
