Iraqji: Tehran alone determines the transit mechanism in the Strait of Hormuz - Sarmad

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi confirmed on Saturday that Article 5 of the memorandum of understanding regarding the Strait of Hormuz is clear, stipulating that Iran is the authority responsible for determining the mechanism for passage through the strait.

In statements reported by Iranian media, Araghchi said that the United States’ establishment of a separate route was inconsistent with the provisions of the memorandum of understanding, noting that Washington should have consulted with Tehran regarding the addition or removal of any passage in the Hormuz Strait to ensure it fell within the framework of Article 5.

He added that following incidents of confrontation in the Strait of Hormuz, Iran had decided during talks in Switzerland to open a direct communication line to avoid misunderstandings, clarifying that developments showed the issue went beyond mere misunderstandings, and that the other party was determined to create additional routes.

Araghchi pointed out that “Washington was seeking to push matters toward escalation,” accusing it of violating the agreement and contributing to the current situation.
