Syrian Health Ministry: 35 dead and 30 injured in Damascus-Deir ez-Zor road accident - Sarmad

A collision between two buses on the Damascus-Deir ez-Zor highway in Syria on Saturday claimed at least 35 lives and injured 30 others, according to the Syrian Ministry of Health.

The Syrian Ministry of the Interior announced that the accident occurred on the Deir ez-Zor-Damascus road between a bus carrying members of the Internal Security Forces and a civilian bus.

The Ministry of Defense also stated that it dispatched helicopters to participate in the medical evacuation of the injured and victims to the Military Hospital in Homs.

The director of the Emergency and Disaster Management Directorate in Deir ez-Zor told the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) that several of the injured had been transferred to Palmyra, and rescue efforts were ongoing.

The Syrian Civil Defense indicated that its teams moved from the Palmyra center, with requests for support from Deir ez-Zor centers to respond to the incident, adding that they managed to control a fire that broke out as a result of the bus collision.
