Deputy Foreign Minister reaffirms Kuwait's commitment to preventive diplomacy to support the "peaceful settlement" of conflicts - Sarmad

(KUNA) – Deputy Foreign Minister Ambassador Hamad Al-Mushaan said on Friday that preventive diplomacy constitutes one of the fundamental pillars of Kuwait’s foreign policy, reaffirming the country’s firm commitment to supporting the peaceful settlement of conflicts in accordance with the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter.

This statement was made during his remarks at a meeting held in the Philippine capital, Manila, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC), held on the sidelines of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) meetings.

Ambassador Al-Mushaan added that the true success of diplomacy is not measured solely by the conflicts it manages to resolve, but also by the crises it prevents before they occur, considering this to be the quiet achievement of preventive diplomacy, which has proven its importance today as it did when the Treaty of Amity was adopted in 1976.

He expressed pride in Kuwait’s accession to this treaty, which embodies shared principles based on dialogue, mutual respect, and peaceful coexistence, calling for building upon the legacy established over the past five decades by enhancing practical measures of preventive diplomacy to contribute to preventing conflicts before they escalate.

In conclusion of his speech, Deputy Foreign Minister Ambassador Al-Mushaan stressed the importance of supporting mediation and dialogue efforts to help consolidate sustainable peace and security.
