European Union approves €1.5 billion financial aid for Egypt - Sarmad

The European Commission has approved the disbursement of the second tranche of the second installment of the Egyptian budget support program, amounting to 1.5 billion euros, as part of a total financial support package of 5 billion euros allocated to Egypt.

According to the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the decision, announced on Friday, completes the implementation of the financial support program agreed upon between Egypt and the European Union. This follows the disbursement of the first tranche of the second installment, valued at 1 billion euros, in January 2026, in addition to the first installment of 1 billion euros disbursed in 2024, as part of the ongoing monitoring by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Egyptian Abroad Affairs regarding the program’s implementation.

The decision is based on the strategic and comprehensive partnership between Egypt and the European Union, launched in March 2024, and reflects the evolution of cooperation between the two sides in political, economic, and security fields, alongside supporting the Egyptian state’s efforts to achieve economic stability and advance sustainable development.

Furthermore, according to the Egyptian side, the decision reflects the European Union’s confidence in Egypt’s efforts to enhance regional security and stability, and its pivotal role as a cornerstone of stability in the Middle East, the southern Mediterranean region, and North Africa.

In recent months, Egypt has held intensive communications with EU institutions at various levels, aiming to secure the necessary support for implementing the pillars of the strategic and comprehensive partnership, thereby enhancing shared interests and supporting cooperation in priority areas.
