"U.S. Energy: Washington and Riyadh Reach Historic Nuclear Cooperation Agreement - Sarmad"

The U.S. Department of Energy announced on Wednesday that the United States and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have signed a historic nuclear cooperation agreement and a bilateral safeguards agreement.

The U.S. Department of Energy stated, “The signing of the 123 Agreement for Peaceful Nuclear Cooperation between the United States and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, along with a bilateral safeguards agreement.”

It added, “These two agreements lay the legal foundation for a partnership that will span decades and enhance economic and strategic objectives. The U.S.-Saudi partnership agreement will be submitted to Congress for review.”

It further noted, “The partnership with Saudi Arabia will expand exports of U.S. nuclear technology.”

It concluded, “The 123 Agreement ensures a significant role for U.S. companies in contributing to Saudi Arabia’s nuclear energy program. The partnership aims to support Saudi Arabia’s needs for peaceful nuclear energy, and both agreements reaffirm the commitment to nuclear safety and security standards and the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons.”

It added, “The agreement is based on President Trump’s executive order on deploying advanced nuclear reactor technologies and enhancing exports of U.S. nuclear technology.”
