Hebrew Report: Egyptian-Turkish Military Alliance 'More Dangerous' to Israel Than Iranian Axis - Sarmad

Israeli fears are mounting over the dramatic shift and growing military rapprochement between Cairo and Ankara, amid genuine concern in Tel Aviv that these understandings could evolve into a long-term military and security alliance that alters the balance of power and imposes a permanent geopolitical reality on the region.

The Hebrew magazine “Epoch” highlighted the conclusion of the “Golden Eagle” joint combat exercise between the special forces and paratroopers of the Egyptian and Turkish armies on Egyptian soil, which focused on countering drones and urban warfare. The magazine noted that this trend has escalated significantly following the signing of a military cooperation agreement between the two countries.

The Hebrew magazine added, in a report prepared by Yoni Ben Menachem, a Middle East affairs analyst at the magazine and an expert on Arab affairs who previously served as Director General and Editor-in-Chief of the Israeli Broadcasting Authority, that according to a statement by the Egyptian Army spokesperson issued on July 18, the final phase of the multi-day exercise included storming terrorist strongholds in urban areas using helicopters. During the drill, hostages were rescued and armed militants were arrested.

Senior security sources in Tel Aviv view this coordination between the two largest regional powers as a more serious threat than the Iranian axis, as it brings together two regular armies equipped with modern capabilities and weaponry, preparing for future threats rather than past wars.

Israeli anxiety is compounded by both sides exploiting regional changes to build a new regional security mechanism, coinciding with Turkey’s sharp political tensions with Israel, as well as Egypt’s expansion of its military cooperation circles with Pakistan; this signals the emergence of a new regional axis that threatens Tel Aviv’s security and strategic standing.
