Arab League: Warns of Consequences of Settlers' Calls to Storm Al-Aqsa - Sarmad

(KUNA) – The Arab League condemned on Wednesday calls launched by settler organizations affiliated with the Israeli occupation to organize large-scale raids on the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, coinciding with what is referred to as the “anniversary of the destruction of the Temple,” warning of the consequences of these incitement-driven calls.

In a statement, the Arab League said that these calls and any accompanying measures and practices shielded by the occupation authorities represent an extension of systematic policies aimed at imposing illegal facts in occupied Jerusalem, in blatant violation of international law and relevant United Nations resolutions.

It clarified that the continued practices of the occupation authorities in Jerusalem constitute a dangerous escalation and a serious violation of the historical and legal status quo at the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound and the Noble Sanctuary.

The Arab League held the Israeli occupation fully responsible for the repercussions of these violations, warning of their dangerous impact on security and stability and their undermining of opportunities to achieve peace.

It called on the international community, particularly the Security Council and the United Nations, to fulfill their legal obligations and take urgent and concrete measures to halt these violations, ensure the protection of the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, preserve the existing historical and legal status quo, and respect the Hashemite custodianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.

The League reaffirmed its support for the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, foremost among them their right to establish their independent, sovereign state on the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.
