Pakistan's Prime Minister reaffirms his country's continued role as mediator between Iran and the United States - Sarmad

(KUNA) – Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed deep concern on Tuesday over the recent escalation in the Gulf region, while affirming that his country would continue its mediation role between Iran and the United States.

The Prime Minister’s office stated in a press release that these remarks were made during a meeting held in Islamabad between Sharif and Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni, who is on an official visit to Pakistan leading a delegation of Iranian officials.

The statement quoted Sharif as calling on all parties to exercise restraint and refrain from any actions that could destabilize the region, reaffirming Pakistan’s “firm” commitment to regional peace and stability. He emphasized that his country would continue its role as a “honest and sincere mediator.”

The statement noted that the Iranian Interior Minister, for his part, expressed appreciation for the persistent mediation efforts of Pakistani Prime Minister Sharif, his deputy and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, and Army Chief of Staff Asim Munir, which led to the signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding between Iran and the United States.

Momeni said he was leading a delegation of Iranian government officials to strengthen bilateral relations with Pakistan.
