Trump offers Netanyahu “non-arrest” guarantee while in the United States - Sarmad
US President Donald Trump threatened on Monday that Iran would pay a “double price” if any American soldier is killed, while simultaneously affirming that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu would not face arrest during his anticipated visit to the United States.
Trump emphasized that Netanyahu would not be subject to any detention during the United Nations General Assembly in New York, following comments by the city’s mayor suggesting such a possibility.
New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani acknowledged that he was not certain whether he had the authority to order police to detain a foreign leader, but indicated that consultations were underway with his legal team regarding the possibility of taking such a step during the UN General Assembly in September.
Trump stated in a post on his social media platform, Truth Social: “Benjamin Netanyahu will not be arrested, in any way, while he is in the United States.”
In 2024, the International Criminal Court (ICC), headquartered in The Hague, announced that it had reasonable grounds to believe that Netanyahu was responsible for war crimes and crimes against humanity in connection with the Israeli attack on Gaza following Hamas’s October 7, 2023, assault.
In an interview with The New York Times published on Saturday, Mamdani said, “I believe Prime Minister Netanyahu belongs in The Hague; he is a war criminal who has been indicted by the International Criminal Court.”
Netanyahu’s office condemned Mamdani’s remarks in a statement, describing the ICC as a “show court” that lacks jurisdiction over Americans or Israelis.
On another note, Trump stated via his Truth Social platform: “Every time Iran kills an American soldier, they will pay for it many times over.”
Trump’s comments came after Washington announced in recent days that several US military personnel had been killed in combat operations, along with the disappearance of another soldier.
He added that he had issued direct orders to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Daniel Caine, and senior military leaders to implement this directive.
