Britain's new Prime Minister Andy Burnham: We promise the most significant political and economic changes for Britain in 40 years - Sarmad

British Prime Minister Andy Burnham pledged in his first speech after taking office to bring about the “most significant changes” in the country’s policy and economy in the past 40 years.

Speaking from the podium in front of the official residence of the British Prime Minister at Downing Street, Burnham said: “We will make this moment a turning point for Britain by implementing the most substantial changes in four decades, and by building a new political model and a new economic model.”

Burnham did not address the United Kingdom’s foreign policy in his inaugural address and pledged to carry out domestic reforms across various sectors, but he did not outline his plans for the country’s foreign policy.

Burnham secured a victory in the Manchester Mycrafeld constituency, which enabled him to enter the House of Commons and gave him the opportunity to compete for the position of Prime Minister.

In earlier remarks this month, Burnham acknowledged that “the Ukraine conflict has driven up prices in Britain and created problems for the people of the United Kingdom.”

However, he stated: “Our commitment to NATO and to maintaining Britain’s nuclear capabilities remains absolute. Our relationship with the United States, our most important ally in defense and security, remains of paramount importance. Britain’s support for Ukraine will not waver.”

Politico estimated that Burnham would focus more heavily on domestic policy and would, in many respects, continue Keir Starmer’s foreign policy, but with considerably less intensity.
