Bloomberg: Syria Becomes a Major Oil Export Hub in the Middle East - Sarmad

A Bloomberg report stated that Iraq is using a large fleet of trucks to transport oil through Syria amid the crisis in the Strait of Hormuz, rapidly turning the country into a major oil export hub in the Middle East.

The agency wrote: “Iraq is using a large fleet of trucks to transport oil products through Syria and rerouting shipments away from the Strait of Hormuz, quickly transforming its neighbor into a key export hub in the Middle East.”

It added: “The cargo is transported by thousands of trucks, a journey that takes up to four days to reach Syria’s Mediterranean ports.”

Yesterday, Syria and Iraq signed memoranda of understanding in Washington to revive the Kirkuk-Baniyas oil pipeline, resume pumping two million barrels per day, and bolster Syria’s position as a regional energy corridor.

In this context, Syrian Energy Minister Mohammed Al-Bashir affirmed that the signing represents “a strategic step to restart one of the region’s most important oil transport pipelines and enhance Syria’s status as a regional energy corridor.”
