(KUNA) – The 17th Arab Conference of Heads of Security Media Agencies concluded its sessions in the Tunisian capital on Thursday, with representatives from the State of Kuwait, Arab interior ministries, and the Union of Arab Radio and Television participating.
The General Secretariat of the Arab Ministers of Interior Council stated in a press release that the conference called on Arab security media agencies to expand security media production by leveraging artificial intelligence applications, particularly in news and security awareness, to ensure the required quality and appeal while saving time, effort, and financial resources.
It also urged member states to focus on the role of artificial intelligence in monitoring and analyzing online media discourse, utilizing this role to expose extremist, violent, and hateful rhetoric, as well as the promotion of various criminal practices.
The recommendations addressed to Arab security media agencies included giving due attention to developing legal frameworks governing media coverage of terrorism issues, aiming to achieve the desired balance between preventing the exploitation of media to spread terrorism and ensuring freedom of opinion and expression, as well as the right to access information. The conference also called for the preparation of joint Arab media campaigns on relevant occasions, particularly the Arab Week for Raising Awareness of the Dangers of Extremism and Terrorism, and the Arab Day for Raising Awareness of the Pain and Tragedies of Terrorism Victims, with the goal of spreading awareness of the dangers of terrorism and enhancing a culture of prevention.
The conference emphasized the importance of media agencies in member states planning effectively to utilize all media channels, especially digital ones, for security awareness and crime prevention, particularly cybercrimes. It stressed the need to diversify the production of engaging and impactful media content to influence the knowledge and attitudes of the Arab public, and to expand digital media production focused on security awareness and prevention of emerging crimes.
Over a two-day period, the conference discussed communication with new generations through digital platforms. In this regard, it called on Arab security media agencies to engage these generations digitally through short videos featuring attractive visual content, particularly in the areas of raising awareness about the dangers of cybercrimes, extremism, terrorism, and addiction.
The State of Kuwait was represented at the meeting by Colonel Abdullah Al-Hajeri, Major Talal Al-Houtri, and Lieutenant Khaled Al-Otaibi.
