Britain officially designates the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist organization - Sarmad

The British government officially announced on Monday the designation of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization.

This decision comes after years of domestic political debate and coincides with the ongoing military escalation between the United States and Iran in the Strait of Hormuz region.

British Security Minister Angela Eagle stated in a written statement to Parliament that the United Kingdom had identified activities linked to the IRGC involving “threats to life and intimidation on British soil.”

Under this designation, joining the IRGC, supporting its activities, attending its meetings, or displaying its slogans in public places within the UK constitutes a criminal offense punishable by law.

The British ban also today included the “Islamic Movement of the Companions of the Right” (IMCR), an Iran-linked group, due to its involvement in attacks targeting the Jewish community and its gathering centers in London.

The British decision follows the European Union’s February designation of the IRGC as a terrorist organization. The announcement coincides with a broad deterioration of security in the Arabian Gulf, where the IRGC and the US military are exchanging intense missile and air strikes around the Strait of Hormuz.
