The Secretary-General of the Arab League, Nabil Fahmy, expressed his firm rejection and strong condemnation of the continued Iranian aggression against several Arab states, emphasizing that these practices constitute a direct threat to the security and stability of the region, a violation of the principles of international law and the UN Charter, as well as a breach of the rules of good neighborliness.
The Secretary-General stressed that Iran’s repeated attacks on commercial ships pose a threat to the security and freedom of international navigation, alongside the ongoing attacks targeting Kuwait, the Kingdom of Bahrain, the State of Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, the Sultanate of Oman, and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
He underscored the Arab League’s rejection of any practices that infringe upon the sovereignty of Arab states or the integrity of their territories, or that constitute a threat to their national security and stability.
Fahmy clarified that these aggressions cannot be justified under any pretext, affirming that the security of Arab states is indivisible, and that any infringement on the sovereignty of an Arab state represents an unacceptable violation that demands a unified and resolute Arab stance.
The Secretary-General reiterated the Arab League’s full solidarity with the targeted Arab states and its support for all lawful measures they undertake to defend their sovereignty, protect their security, and safeguard their populations.
He also called on the UN Security Council to fulfill its responsibilities and take effective steps to halt these violations, ensure respect for international law, and preserve the security and freedom of international navigation, thereby contributing to the enhancement of security and stability in the region.
In a related development, the Secretary-General of the Arab League held a telephone conversation on Sunday with Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi, discussing efforts to contain regional escalation, ways to enhance security and stability, and support for the trajectory of joint Arab action.
During the call, the Secretary-General reaffirmed the Arab League’s full solidarity with the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan in the face of Iranian aggression, stressing the importance of intensifying Arab coordination to address current challenges and safeguard the security and stability of Arab states.
The two sides discussed ways to enhance joint Arab action and serve Arab causes and interests, amid developments in the region, in a manner that supports Arab solidarity and strengthens coordination mechanisms among member states.
