FIFA President Gianni Infantino praised Egypt’s historic participation in the 2026 World Cup, affirming that this edition of the tournament will always hold a very special place in the history of Egyptian football.

In a post on his Instagram account, Infantino congratulated the Pharaohs on qualifying for the knockout stages for the first time in their history, and on securing Egypt’s first World Cup victory outside the group stage, describing the team’s journey as an inspiring one for fans in Egypt and around the world.

The FIFA president added in his post: “The memories made this summer will remain etched in the minds of Egyptian football fans for a long time to come.”

Egypt’s national team achieved an unprecedented historic feat at the 2026 World Cup, beginning its group-stage campaign with two draws and a victory that propelled it into the knockout stages for the first time in its history.

In the Round of 32, Mohamed Salah’s teammates continued their impressive form by eliminating the Australian national team, before their World Cup campaign ended in the Round of 16 with a 3–2 defeat to Argentina.

This match sparked widespread controversy and sharp criticism from Egyptian fans toward French referee François Letexier, amid allegations of bias in favor of Lionel Messi’s teammates.
