WhatsApp Tests Feature to Remind Users of Contacts’ Birthdays - Sarmad

WhatsApp is working on a new feature that will allow users to remember the birthdays of their saved contacts by sending in-app notifications, a move that mirrors a similar feature already available on Meta’s Facebook platform.

According to WABetaInfo, a website that tracks WhatsApp updates, the feature appeared in the latest beta version of the app for Android, but it is still under development and has not yet been released for public testing.

As reported by the site, the feature will enable users to receive an in-app notification when a contact’s birthday arrives, provided the contact’s birth information is available. Users will also be able to open the chat directly to send birthday greetings.

WhatsApp is also working on adding a dedicated birthday section within the app, which could display a list of upcoming birthdays for saved contacts, making it easier to keep track of important occasions in one place.

The feature is expected to rely on the availability of a contact’s birth date in the app, which may limit its use in some countries or with contacts whose birth data is not available.

This move is part of WhatsApp’s efforts to expand the app’s functionality by adding new social tools that go beyond traditional messaging, leveraging features previously introduced by other Meta platforms such as Facebook.
