Amnesty International revealed today that Israeli airstrikes on southern Lebanon killed 24 civilians within a single week, including 12 children, in attacks it described as amounting to war crimes.

In a report, the organization stated that its investigations focused on three separate Israeli airstrikes, which resulted in the complete eradication of three Lebanese families, in tragic scenes reflecting the brutality of war and its repercussions on civilians.

On March 6, an Israeli airstrike destroyed the home of the Saleh family in the city of Sidon. The head of the household, Hussein, had left the house to buy breakfast supplies, and upon his return, he found his home reduced to rubble and had lost eight family members, including three children. He later stated that he spent three days gathering the fragments of his loved ones’ bodies, adding, “There was no trace of the house left—no walls, no stones. My daughter Sara was everything to me.”

Six days later, the village of Erq el-Ahmar witnessed a similar tragedy, as an Israeli bombardment targeted the home of the Taqi family. The attack killed Muhammad Taqi, who lost his four daughters: Zainab (14), Zahra (12), Malika (9), and Yasmina (6), along with his parents, his brother, his brother’s wife, and his nephew (12). Muhammad said he found Yasmina breathing, but she later died, while no trace of Zainab and Zahra was found except for body fragments days later.
